How I Maintain my Nails at Home

I really enjoy giving myself a manicure at home. For some reason, I find it very therapeutic. Even if you go to the nail salon on a regular basis, it’s important to maintain them in-between services. Here’s what I do to keep my nails together:

Nourish and moisturize.  I believe that everyone should have cuticle oil in their beauty bag. It makes the nail look so much better and healthier, too. It stimulates nail growth and prevents extreme dryness. I keep a bottle on my nightstand and a pen version in my purse. I apply cuticle oil every night followed by a hand lotion or cream.

Get some great tools. I keep a nail file, clipper, nipper and cuticle pusher in my manicure kit.  I have doing my own nails before I got my license, so I’m familiar with how to properly use them. Having the best tools means nothing if you don’t know how to use, so make sure you know what you’re doing! Improper use of tools can damage the nail. Learning the right way to use the nail tools at home will maintain a great set of nails.

Invest in a nail strengthener.  When I am in-between services, I like to keep a good nail strengthener on my nails. It helps my nails stay hard to prevent breakage. Unfortunately, I’m the girl who can grow long nails but when they get to a certain point – they break!! I use about 2-3 coats to make sure my nails stay strong

As well as a clear polish. Always keep a clear polish. I hate nails on myself.
