Summer Makeup Swapouts

The first day of summer is a week away, can you believe it? As the temperatures rise, so are my patience levels with all the makeup I’ve been wearing in the heat. I still want great looks however I don’t want them all melting off my face. I have been going threw my makeup and skincare products – because skincare is just as important – to swap a few everyday products out from items lighter and healthier:

Replace foundation with BB Cream, CC Cream & tinted moisturizer. On hot summer days, the last thing you want to feel is sweaty makeup running down your face. Swap out that heavy foundation for a lighter option. Most BB creams, CC creams and tinted moisturizers have a great sheer coverage for that summer glow we all want. Applying a little concealer underneath in your problem areas and you’re good to go.

Add SPF! It doesn’t matter your age, color or part of the world you live in: Everybody needs SPF! All skin types, from Lucy Liu to Lupita Nyong'o, need SPF. Not only does it protect the skin from various skin cancers but SPF helps dark spots. When the sun hits dark spots and sunspots, it actually darkens them. Adding products with SPF such as foundation, moisturizers and lip balms is a MUST for the summer. Since I work a normal 9 to 5 job and not really outdoors much, SPF 15 is okay but for the people that spend more time out than in, go for a minimum of SPF 30.

Find “All in One” Products. I sampled Invisiblur™ Perfecting Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++ from Murad and I loved it (I am obsessed with Murad Skincare actually). I used it as a primer but it also has an anti-aging treatment, SPF and blurs imperfections, which gives you a clean and smooth canvas to work with.  Finding all in one products prevents you layering a ton of product on the face. Too much product = oil = acne breakouts = acne scars = not a good time!

Waterproof Eyeliner & Mascara. I personally only use waterproof eyeliners and mascaras because they last longer. Running eye makeup in the scorching heat can make you have panda eyes - which is so not the move! There are a tons of eyeliners and mascaras that have a waterproof version like Better than Sex mascara by Too Faced

Lip pencils instead of Lipsticks. There is nothing like reaching in your bag to touch up your lipstick and it’s soft and breaks because it’s has melted :( That has happened to me at picnics, summer concerts, or when I accidentally drop my lipstick in the car. So swap out the potentially messy lipsticks for a lip pencil. It’s easy to apply, last way longer than lipstick and less mess.

What’s in your summer makeup bag?
